And The Photo Contest Winner Is
Date: 10/24/05

A panel of judges led by Barbra Mulholland, Director of Matrix Marketing made the following selection in this, the third annual Classic Conservatory photo contest.
"This year the winner’s home is in the town of Rockville, MD. Our panel felt that the conservatory was an excellent compliment to the exterior façade of the home. The marble floor with diamond inlay gave the interior of the room a unique sense of style, accompanied by comfortable furnishings where guests enjoy the changing seasons."
The homeowner, in conjunction with the attached letter, provided the excellent photography you see below. A member of the Classic Conservatories of Maryland branch office will give the prize money personally.
There are no words for me to adequately explain the transformation in this house when our Conservatory was completed. This "Room with a view" will never be taken for granted. I have learned that bird watching, squirrel fights, and ground hogs chasing rabbits can be an excellent form of therapy.
We moved into out newly built home in 1998, located in Maryland. We had a standard wood deck built on the back of the house, thinking we would enjoy many summer evenings of family barbecues and neighborhood get together. We soon discovered that the Maryland habitat, let alone the heat, humidity and mosquitoes, prevented us from enjoying the deck. We debated for several years whether to enclose the deck with a screen or just eliminate outdoor activities from our lifestyle.
In March of 2004, I received an advertising brochure in the mail from Classic Conservatories. My husband and I had never discussed a glass enclosure or Conservatory type structure. We set an appointment and the seed was planted…or as I like to refer to it...a "star was born"…
Construction began in August of 2004, and was completed the week my husband came home from hip surgery. Although the construction of a new division of the home can be frustrating, the end result has far surpassed any inconvenience.
The first day we sat in the conservatory, a zebra striped woodpecker with a red head landed on the nearest tree top right outside the main conservatory window. I then went out and bought a book on Garden Birds and how to recognize them and attract them to the garden. The following month flowers and trees bloomed as if they were on stage for us.
Our English Conservatory has become the main living area in our home. The enjoyment of breakfast in our "room with a view" has been greatly enhanced, especially while enjoying our coffee or a cup of tea, along with the beauty of the outdoors and animal life in the comfort of our home. (No mosquitoes, no bugs, no heat/humidity, noise, etc.) My husband especially treasures the lazy afternoons when it rains as he enjoys a good book and soft music of classic radio. Our friends are so envious when they join us for cocktails at dusk (what a view). We now look forward to the first snowfall of the season, and the twinkling lights of our first Christmas tree in the new Conservatory, a "room with a view"!!
Thank you for allowing us to enjoy nature, the outdoors and relax in our space. (Not to mention the value that it has added to out property.)
